All Downhill From Here...

Well, it's Tuesday night now, which means that the hardest/longest days of my week are over! Monday I was at school all day as usual, and got back just in time for dinner. We had some kind of Spanish recipe that involved rice that was cooked with some spices and ended up being yellow. There were also some clams in it. My favorite part was the salad, which had noodles and tuna, or Sea Chicken.

Today I had class most of the day but had time to do homework in the break between Japanese and Hanga. I finished my last hanga last week, so I had to try to design something new today. I'm not much of an artist, but I can do okay if I have something to go off of. I ended up creating a big jumble of the album cover-art from a couple of my favorite bands. It has some really tiny features, so I don't know if it's really possible for me to do, but with the drawing, tracing, and carbon-papering today I didn't have any time to start carving. I'll have to wait until next week to find out.

Today was Hinamatsuri - Girl's Day. There are a couple traditional things done for young girls- something to do with setting up a huge platform of dolls- but since Toki is a boy we didn't really do anything. Apparently you're supposed to eat Sushi on Hinamatsuri, so we had Chirashizushi with some Maguro on top. Chirashi consists of sushi rice, with other ingredients scattered in it and some fish on top (the Maguro- which is tuna).

That's all for now! I've got some plans for tomorrow, so I might write again soon.

Fact of the Day: The Japanese school year runs much differently from the American one. I'm not sure how each of the levels differ, as 5-th grade Toki is in school right now, but college students have what corresponds to our summer vacation in February and March. Campus has been pretty deserted for the last month becuase it's only us Ryuugakusei - Foreign Students.
