Today I only had Japanese class from 9:20-10:50!! It's amazing how short that feels now. For lunch a had a huge bowl of Tempura Kishimen. Kishimen is a kind of noodle that is only in Nagoya. You would think I would have been full from that huge meal, but no, I had to buy an apple pie from the bakery again.

This afternoon I went on a 'field trip' to Nagoya Castle! It was lots of fun.

The original castle burned down in an air raid during World War II, so the rebuilt one is just a museum on the inside. The gold statues on top are called Kinshachi, and are supposed to be gold dolphins I believe. The "gold dolphin" figure is a symbol of Nagoya.

From the top of the castle there was a great view of the city. It's crazy being in a big place like this where you can look out any direction and still see city. It was really neat because I could look out and recognize different parts of the city- mostly coordinated with stops on the subway.

(View from the top of the castle. The two white towers are Nagoya Stations, and the black one is the one I took video in the elevator from)
Tonight we had curry udon (round noodles) for dinner. As usual dinner was delicious. I was pretty tired from walking around all day so I snoozed on the couch for a little bit afterwards.

Fact of the Day: Whenever you ride an escalator you are supposed to stand on the left side, and let people walk on the right side. The great thing is that everyone here actually does it!
Sounds like your having fun and learning too.
ReplyDeleteThe old saying is, "there is nothing as american as Mom and APPLE PIE". Keep eating that apple pie to stay grounded in your heritage.
